Phunky late night, dance till you sweat, smile till it hurts, jam till you're dizzy, grooves.

Incognito Mosquito was created in the fall of 2003, when circumstances brought Ansley Wynn, Chad Thompson, Ryan Persaud and William Stone together to play an unrehearsed show for an expecting crowd. Having never played together in the past, the four instantly found an uncanny chemistry amidst funky rhythms and impressive improvisation.

In the years since, Incognito Mosquito has formulated an amazing repertoire of original music that will leave crowds cheering for more. Hailing from Charlotte NC, Incog is changing the music scene, one dance party at a time.

Kid Damascus-Beats and Rhymes

Newly formed hip-hop group Quantum Foundry recently burrowed through the surface of Charlotte from their underground lair of calamitous intent. After many laborious experiments and attempts to convert hip-hop into easily digestible link sausages, they decided that the best way to share their underground style was to actually record audio tracks. Or perhaps rock a show or two, provided the opportunity to push their hip-hop sausages...

Don't ask me I just work here.

In the realm of hugs, there lies the friendly, but passive sort - welcoming, yet distant. There's also the lingering, interesting sort that leaves you wondering its meaning. Then, there is the soulful, rare variety that picks you up off your feet as it envelops your entire being with intensity. Feet suspended, dangling in the air, you can't help but wonder what might come next. Desire for more leaves you riveted, thrown off balance by the unexpected. Meet Evelynn Rose.

Incorporating melody, brutality, and beauty to respire a stagnant music industry are Scapegoat: the five-piece hard rock band hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina. Established in 1999, Scapegoat has proven adamant with their driven work ethic to create inventive and passionate compositions. The band, comprised of Justin Driscoll (guitar), Daniel Hitselberger (drums), Dan Royer (bass), Kit Walters (vocals), and Spencer Bensch (guitar), are relentless in their pursuits to satisfy onlookers and capture new audiences. This band does everything a rock group should, without adhearing to the boring steadfast rules that produce generic, uninspiring acts.

Taxpayers hiphop/Intelirap served with a heaping helping of DirtyCountryIndieReggaeFolkrock. ONE BIG LOVE is more like an experience or somthing tha happens to you, rather than a band that plays songs in between applauses. Inspiring, entertaining, innovative and liberating, soulful, emoitional, hopeful and so forth.OBL posses, above all, an unrelenting sincerity to be unrelentingly sincere, whether it is erudite spokenword, acoustic guitar, full on band or inspirational hip/hop.Left to their own devices, they play for hours, usually two full sets or until everyone is sweaty. Fans are continually taken aback as they witness the seamless transformation of O.B.L. as they move from pulse pounding live instruments to club banging beats with intelligent rhyme schemes and impeccable timing.

CD Review: HodgePodge Messiahs Published 12.16.08 By Jeff Hahne, Creative Loafing Music Editor The Deal: Combine hip-hop group Eyes of the Elders with local poet Turtle and a variety of the area's beatsmiths for a 33-track album, Casual Sabbath. The Good: The album's feel is similar to that of Jim Morrison's An American Prayer – spoken word and poetry done over music. Some tracks lean toward hip-hop more than just spoken word – "About to Be," "Transparent Dreams." The backdrop for the words are all over the place – from hip-hop to rock to something that sounds like it's straight outta India. The lengths are completely varied as well, tracks go from as short as 26 seconds to as long as four-and-a-half minutes. The Bad: 33 tracks lasting an hour and 20 minutes can be a lot to wade through when it's lyrically/mentally heavy. The only thing bad is finding the time to focus on it. The Verdict: You need to spend some time with this one. While a lot of music is out to get your body moving or feelings stirred, this album's about thought. The grooves may grab you just the same, but it's the lyrics, poetry and spoken emotions that you should be paying attention to here. So many thoughts offered by three distinct voices over a vast aural conglomerate – HodgePodge, indeed.

Higher Hands is a veteran quartet of heavy hitters that delivers night in and night out. The group’s spontaneous energy is clearly captured on their debut album “Grab Hold”, independently released on August 1st 2008 @ the 8x10 in Baltimore/MD. Blending the sounds of vintage funk, jazz fusion, and alternative hip hop, the Higher Hands bring light to the darkest corners of the dance floor. Collectively the band has rocked with artists including John Scofield, Cypress Hill, The Roots, and Maceo Parker, and at venues like Blues Alley, B.B. King’s, Merriweather Post Pavillion, Nissan Pavillion, 9:30 Club, 8x10 Club, Recher Theatre, the State Theatre, The Lion’s Den, Temple Bar, and Ramshead Live. Having held down a successful residency for over a year at Armadillo’s in downtown Annapolis, the band has been able to kill two funky birds with one stone as they built a strong crowd while honing their abilities to control the dancefloor. Catch them while you can, as they embark on an oddysey... in the present tense... art made for the moment... forward to the future..

Heath Patrick - guitars, bass, keys, drums, banjo, mando, & melodica

Hogdoggn is a unique blend of music, madness, emotion, and humor simulataneously exploding from the mind of Heath Patrick. Hogdoggn has no recipe. Hogdoggn simply is. Depending which night you make it out to see the one man band perform, you may hear influences as broad as bluegrass, death metal, dat dirty dirty hiphop, reggae, traditional, rockabilly, new wave, electronic soul blues all taking shape within a few tracks. But what is great about Mr. Patrick is the fact that he has the rare talent to not only pick and choose through a large catalog of sounds, but to make the music distinctlly his own. From tales of knifefights in song in spanish, to exploring the legend of the Sasquatch, to cooking up sweet delights in the kitchen with a lover and wife, Hogdoggn comes across equally well on tape or in person.

in 2007, turtle released sticks & stones: a collection [of asinine poetry & meaningless dribble]. the handwritten collection of poetry and short prose, written between 1998 and 2007, has sold over 200 copies worldwide. his one act play, vernal, was considered a ‘chest-pounding chunk of pretension’ by a local critic. in the fall of 2008 hodgepodge messiahs released casual sabbath. the 33 track collaboration between turtle, uncle fox, and bearcat was called ‘spoken word and poetry done over music.’

turtle grew his local notoriety when, in the fall of 2008, he prayed on nationalistic sensibilities, dressed as uncle sam, and read from a paper towel roll.

currently, turtle is editor of that paper, a new monthly publication set to launch in september; co-producer and music director for an independent film currently in production in wiston-salem; and director of emancipated logik. he is working on a new book entitled $5,000 haikus.

focus and intent are clearer yet

want
wanders
willingly

now jobless,
they call him, “irresponsible.”
they say, “man up.”
they urge, “you don’t always get your
first choice.”

now hopeful,
he calls out, “i poet,”
he says, “am man.”
he urges.

meanwhile . . .

the soothy band returns
to destroy mindscapes

rewire motherboard
rewrite programming

drones want they not
its freethinkers sought

the speaker stands once again
prone at the podium

eyes closed and mind silent
he utters a soft prayer

at that moment . . .

a great rumble fades in
felt in feet
first, as aftershocks

the rumble, source deep within the bowels of earth,
lower mantle,
core
induced.

leaves rustle, glass rattles,

giant fluffy clouds swirl,
midnight center,
noon all around.

warm and cold front
thunder bellows

lightning shatters sky,
slicing down middle,
striking sage.

contorted by god’s strings, crucified by bolt, a humble head bows.

the speaker drops to his knees.

smoke seeps off his back, crawling through strata,
yearning for a return to bliss.

onlookers remain hushed,
baited.

then . . .

he speaks.
